Restoring 100 Year Old Floorboards. Is it WORTH IT?
Before I started sanding I thought these floors were original to the 90 year old house, after I started sanding it became quite obvious that it wasnt original to the house. But "restoring Perhaps 35-50 year old boards" is just not as clickable! I hope you like it, please subscribe

"No". The patina of the wood has been destroyed - vandalism rather than restoration.

This is the exact opposite of my experience gained through renovating a house. Every single time that I've got a professional in to do anything including plumbing, plastering, etc, etc, they have always done terrible work. I've had tradespeople lie to me about what needed to be done in order to charge more. I've had 'work' done that has taken me longer to fix than it would have taken for it to do properly myself. Additionally, I've been uncovering and correcting mistakes made by the original builders as well. Mistakes that would have been easy to do right initially but are a real nightmare to fix after the fact. Every time I've done something myself, it's been far less expensive and ended in a far better result. What I have learned is to avoid 'professionals' wherever and whenever possible when it comes to these kinds of trades. The standards right across the board are extremely low in the UK at least.

Amazing job mate, wow! Can I ask a question? I have recently installed new oak herringbone parquet and I used Osmo 3041 hard wax oil (the one with the white pigment) and unfortunately it has left a cloudy white sheen because I applied a little too much. I'm so annoyed with myself :( What steps do I need to take to sand this back and start over? Would a drum sander be too aggressive to take off the hard wax oil? What are my options? Any advice I would greatly appreciated.

Why was he trying to take the floor up with a hammer saying it is his floor when the floor was already yours 🤔 if he paid for the lacquer then i think the coats of lacquer would be all he is entitled to remove as long as it doesn't make further damage to your floor🤔

Also lots of people that do those home depot rentals do the trick where you rent for 4 hours at night so they close and you can use it all night and return in the morning for the lower price but you will be working all night after probably working a full job during the day and can be really hard to get right with lots of pressure to finish. Dont do that as that is what I did 😂

  • @thewatchersofthewood3530

I sanded my own floors and it was bad!😂 took forever and end result was just ok. Though there was no way I could ever afford a professional so in the end it held up ok for many years or so of very very heavy use. I think the next time I will hire a professional unless its a project just for fun.

I used lambs wool and they dont come out as nice as the roller, i agree that DIY'er should stop using them. They do work but if you dont pay attention or dont have good technique you will end up w/ fuzz in your floors or some uneven blotchy spots here and there. The rollers are lot more reliable and forgiving

I only watched to the first 41 seconds. I hate to say this but it definitely seems to hold water. The customers you go out of your way to help ….feel bad for...etc. are the ones that you regret ever taking the job. Hearing your 41 second story it sounds so familiar to times I have tried to "help" people. In my experience tell people what you are going to do and then do it and get paid for your services.

I have very old pine floor with uneven floor boards, so very hard to get the grime and paint marks of it unless i go across the floor boards instead of going diagonally or along the direction they are put down, I started with a 24 grit which helped as well. i am now left with a few spots grime in-between the planks where its lower but nothing major. I have now moved to grit 40 , which is where i am confused.... do i start going diagonally ? if so do i always go diagonally when i move to a finer sand paper ?
